Welcome
A welcome to the University of Wales Global Campus
- from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marc Clement
"You may well be thinking that this is just a bigger, shinier, revamped version of our old website, but this project has been designed to be a much wider-ranging venture. The website will be its most obvious product, but its aim is to provide a comprehensive array of online services – a virtual campus where all the members of our university, wherever they are in the world, can meet.
Our primary goal is to enable effective collaboration – internally and externally – between University staff, departments, institutions and students, both past and present. Students, alumni, researchers and staff will be able to use social networking features, write blogs, form discussion groups, share files and upload videos. Our aspiration is to create a strong, world-wide, fully interactive community of staff, students and alumni – a University in the truest sense of the word.
At the heart of the Campus is its content management system. This is an easy-to-use web-based authoring environment, which allows everyone to contribute with ease. It is this authoring tool which holds the key to the success of the Global Campus for its many different users. While Communications staff can publish news and media releases, a Validation Officer can maintain the details of partner institutions and the courses we validate for them. And academics, students and alumni will find many new ways of communicating, enhancing study – and even of relaxing!
There will be a whole host of other helpful features, including tools for academic collaboration, for communication with people across the university, for scheduling work and meetings, for e-commerce and for providing a helpdesk ‘chat’ facility.
I hope you will use the resources our Global Campus offers, just as you would the facilities of a physical university campus, to enhance your relationship with the University. As you have heard, there is a wide choice of possibilities to try out, and groups to join – and I have no doubt that you will create your own too.
We look forward to seeing your contributions to the campus as it continues to develop."
