This volume contains an edition of the poetry of Siôn ap Hywel ap Llywelyn Fychan, a poet from Holywell in Flintshire who sang in the first half of the sixteenth century. Twenty-six awdlau and cywyddau are attributed to him, as well as a few englynion and couplets. Siôn ap Hywel is a good example of a poet-nobleman, a fact which is apparent from the interesting variety of topics on which he sang: as well as the more traditional eulogy and elegy, he sang love poetry, religious poetry, a cywydd to card and dice-players, and a cywydd to extol the praises of Anglesey and her inhabitants.
