Professor Ann Parry Owen’s principal field of research is medieval Welsh language and poetry. She is particularly interested in the poetry, metrics and language of the Poets of the Princes, the later Gogynfeirdd who sang in the fourteenth century, and in the later poetical tradition of the fifteenth century. She is the co-editor (with Nerys Ann Jones) of the two volumes Gwaith Cynddelw Brydydd Mawr I and II in the ‘Poets of the Princes Series’, and she has editions of later texts in the ‘Poets of the Nobility Series’ of which she is the series editor. Professor Parry Owen was the Principal Investigator on the AHRC five-year team-based Guto’r Glyn Project (2008–13), and general editor of the new electronic edition that is freely available online, at www.gutorglyn.net. She was responsible also for editing the poetry Guto’r Glyn sang at Valle Crucis Abbey towards the end of his life, as well as the poetry to the families of Bryncunallt, Pengwern and Plas Newydd of Nanheudwy. In 2015–17 she was Co-Investigator on the Cult of the Saints in Wales project, and re-edited the three great twelfth-century poems to Saints David, Cadfan and Tysilio. She is presently working on a print edition of Guto’r Glyn’s poetry. Since spring 2017 she has also acted as Senior Editor with the University of Wales Dictionary.

In 2015 the University of Wales awarded her a personal chair.
