Dr. R Iestyn Daniel studied Latin and Greek initially but then changed his interest to the Celtic field, and later, more specifically, to medieval Welsh literature. He took much interest in the prose of the period and is the editor of the mystical treatise Ymborth yr Enaid (’The Soul’s Food’) (Cardiff, 1995). He has also contributed a paper on this work to the Centre’s Research Papers series: A Medieval Welsh Mystical Treatise (Aberystwyth, 1997). His editions of the poetry of Bleddyn Ddu, Gwilym Ddu o Arfon, Iorwerth Beli, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Llywelyn ab y Moel, Casnodyn, Dafydd y Coed, Ieuan Llwyd ab y Gargam, Meurig ab Iorwerth, y Prol, y Mab Cryg, Tudur ap Gwyn Hagr, Tudur Ddall and Ieuan ap Rhydderch have been published in the Poets of the Nobility| Series.
He is currently editing the work of Ieuan Gethin, a Glamorgan poet of the fifteenth century, which will be published in due course. Iestyn is now working on the Centre’s new project devoted to the life and work of the poet Guto’r Glyn| . Over the years Iestyn has also published several articles on medieval Welsh literature, and an English article on the date, origin and authorship of the native tales in The Journal of Celtic Studies , iv (2004).
