School of Arts and Humanities

Welcome to the School of Arts and Humanities.

The School was established on 1st October 2010 with its launch on 6th May 2011 in the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. The School provides an overarching academic community for University of Wales students at undergraduate and postgraduate level studying in Alliance Institutions and its Collaborative Centres, and their tutors, in the arts and humanities including art and design, film and photography, literature and creative writing, history and theology and religious studies.  

The School mission sets out to

  • Underpin University of Wales validation and quality assurance activity in arts and humanities subject provision
  • Enhance learning and teaching, research, creativity, enterprise and innovation, and scholarly activity in general in arts and humanities subjects across the University of Wales Alliance and Collaborative Centre communities.  
  • Further develop and maintain the national and international public reputation of excellence in the arts and humanities in the University and Wales. 

    The School is led by a Dean and consists of three full-time Faculty, and a number of Associate and Honorary Faculty, the latter comprising moderators who act as the University’s link with its Collaborative Centres. There is also a community of Allied Researchers from within the University.

    The School supports courses at a number of collaborative centres in the UK and around the world at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies in Aberystwyth.
