Relationship between UW & collaborative centres

Collaborative centres are recognised by the University of Wales as providing an appropriate higher education environment in which to deliver UW-validated programmes. Each validated programme offered has been developed by the institution and submitted to the University for validation.

Each programme is supported by a moderator and allocated a Validation Officer and Institution Officer in addition to the appointment of at least two appropriately qualified External Examiners.

The Moderator is required to maintain regular contact with the collaborative centre, to visit at least twice a year, to attend examining boards and the Joint Board of Studies, to agree and monitor an action plan with the collaborative centre, to meet with students, to review physical resources and facilities and to provide suitable examples of good practice from the institutions of the University of Wales. Additionally, a validation officer attends examining boards to advise on procedural and regulatory matters.

The University approves and appoints external examiners to schemes, and retains ultimate responsibility for approving the appointment of external examiners for its validated awards.
