Assessment Approval

Collaborative centres need to submit draft assessments to the University for approval by the University of Wales appointed external examiners.

What draft assessments should be submitted to the University?

All examination papers that contribute to the final award of a scheme and all coursework questions/assignments which contribute at least 50% towards the module mark.

It is good practice to send re-sit assessments at the same time.

Marking criteria and/or model answers should be submitted with all draft assessments.

If the programme is assessed in a language other than English, draft assessments should be submitted in both the language of delivery and in English.

When should draft assessments be submitted?

The University expects to receive all draft assessments at least 10 weeks prior to the date of assessment.

On an annual basis, institutions will be asked to provide an assessments calendar which will provide dates that assessments are due to be taken and when the drafts will be submitted to the Validation Unit.

How should draft assessments be submitted?

Draft assessments and marking criteria should be password protected and emailed to assessments@wales.ac.uk

The password should be sent in a separate message, along with a covering letter confirming what has been submitted.   Please do not send the covering letter and password in the same email as the assessments.

How will institutions receive feedback on draft assessments?

Institutions will receive comments/approval from the external examiners on the draft assessments via the Validation Unit. Assessments must not be taken before final approval has been received.

Please see the assessment approval procedure| for full details.
