Student Appeals

Any student enrolled on a validated programme leading to an award of the University of Wales is able to use the University’s Appeals Procedures.

An appeal is where a student requests that an examination board reconsider a mark awarded for an assessment.

Appeals will only be considered on specific grounds:

  • Exceptional personal circumstances such as bereavement or medical grounds
  • Defects or irregularities in an assessment, such as an error in an examination paper.

In both cases specific criteria need to be met for the appeal to be considered and these criteria are outlined in full in the relevant procedure.

Appeals submitted simply because a student disagrees with the mark they have been awarded will not be considered.

Which procedure applies?

Students who have not yet completed their studies or who have re-sit opportunities available should use the Interim Appeals Procedure|.

Students who have completed their studies or exited from their programme should use the Verification and Appeals Procedure|.

Separate procedures exist for students studying on Research Degrees| (such as MPhil or PhD).

Students who are appealing against the decision of an Unfair Practice Committee or a Fitness to Practice Committee should refer to the appendices of the relevant procedure.
