Llandrillo College Visit

Llandrillo College, North Wales

Hi Guys,

I’m a bit behind with my blogs due to the amount of time I’ve been out of the office and visiting our students around Wales and London, so I’ll try and fill you in with my travels!

It all started with Ben, Hattie and I visiting Llandrillo College in North Wales for three days. Ben and I had a nice relaxing, SAFE train journey up to North Wales, where we met up with Hattie - who was already there as she is from that neck of the woods. However that was as nice as my journeys were going to be until my train ride home. This was because I had to be a passenger whilst Hattie drove us to the College and back in her car named ‘Swifty’... more like ‘SCARY’!!

Our time at the College was brilliant though; we had a stall set up with information on UW along with competitions, one of which involved students having to build a bridge with a set amount of straws, sellotape and paper. However there were two stipulations: the bridge had to withstand the weight of four cans of beans and also had to be tall enough to let our little car pass underneath it.

During our visit, Hattie and I were also able to engage with students at individual induction sessions- explaining who we are, what we do and what UW can offer them through Global Campus, scholarships and bursaries.

Overall, it was a great trip. As well as having the opportunity to meet with UW students and give them a face to recognise and a contact in the UW, we also met a range of other students who were studying at GCSE and A level and had not yet decided whether they were going to go onto Higher Education. We were able to give them food for thought by sharing our experiences and highlighting what UW could have to offer them, through courses and support services.

I’ll be back with an update soon.

Rhys
