September Begins

Hi guys,

The start of the new academic year is getting closer. Are you excited? How are you preparing for it?

Sadly, I have to report that the honeymoon period for the newly developed Student Engagement Team is over and I’m in Hattie’s bad books.

Last week Hattie decided to bring her new Dennis the Menace toy to work, which she got free from a magazine. When Hattie left it under my supervision; it had an accident when attempting an insane stunt. However, when Hattie returned, she decided that I warranted full blame and warned that I should sleep with one eye open in the future.

There was also an all-staff meeting this week, where colleagues from around Wales were in attendance. We received an update from the Vice-Chancellor, Marc Clement, along with a welcome to all new staff.

The majority of my week, after having fallen out with Hattie, entailed liaising with a printing company regarding the design and production of scratch cards. This year, our aim for the Alliance institutions’ Freshers’ Fayres is to advertise the Global Campus and get students to register to the My Wales account. Unlike students of our Collaborative centres, those from the Alliance do not automatically receive a My Wales account and therefore do not have access to its support services. We hope that the scratch card initiative will provide the incentive for students of our Alliance institutions to visit the Global campus and register with us.

Good luck for the start of the new academic year; let me know how it goes and update me on how your induction weeks went.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Rhys
