Welcome to the April 2010 Validation Unit eUpdate, our quarterly newsletter informing you of events, news and developments.
Conferences
Places are still available on our Student Engagement Conferences in Cardiff and Singapore| in April - do register your interest now. The keynote speaker will be Mr. Derfel Owen, the QAA Development Officer (Students and Enhancement). Other speakers include the University of Wales Moderator Champions for Student Engagement, Mr Siôn Hughes and Ms Laura Luo, and the University of Wales Student Liaison Officer, Mr Ben Gray.
The dates for the2010 Administrative and Quality Conference| are now fixed and the agenda is being finalised. Confirmed session themes include BAC accreditation, Appeals and the OIA, writing for the web and Turnitin. If you would like a conference session on a specific topic do let us know.
We’re already thinking about conference themes for 2011 and would be delighted to have your input atvalidationconferenceswales.ac.uk|.
Annual Meeting of Moderators
Moderators have only a few days to register for the annual Meeting of Moderators| to be held on 9th April at City Hall, Cardiff.
Graduation Celebration
Preparations for the upcoming Graduation Celebration are well underway and confirmation letters will be sent soon. The graduation web pages are updated frequently with useful information for attendees.| are updated frequently with useful information for attendees.
Annual College and Course Reviews (ACCRs)
Thank you to those collaborative centres that have returned ACCRs to the University. These are being processed and you will receive feedback in due course. We are developing good practice guidelines to help you prepare ACCRs. These will be available for 2010/11.
Course Documentation
Some collaborative centres need to submit course documents, programme specifications and student handbooks to the University for 2009/10 and these should be uploaded to the University’s website without further delay. For help with uploading documents contact gcsupportwales.ac.uk|.
QAA Institutional Review
The University of Wales will be subject to review by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency| this year. The review panel will be visiting the University of Wales in October and three collaborative centres will be considered as part of the review. We should know the names of these centres by late June.
Online Library
We have purchased a new subscription to the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics to restore current access (January 2001 to present). To access the journal, go to the eJournals tab of theHealth Studies subject page|. Design Philosophy Papers, which aims to increase understanding of the significance of design by the wider intellectual community as well as by designers has been added to the Art & Design eJournal collection| and we added five new theology ebooks from the NIV Application Commentary series to our NetLibrary ebook collection. Student Survey
The 2010 International Student Survey| is open for completion until 28 May 2010 and we are encouraged to be seeing an increased response rate this year. Survey results will be published on our website.
Student ID cards
Following requests from students and collaborative centres, we are exploring how we might provide students on validated schemes of study with University of Wales student ID cards. Contact us at validationwales.ac.uk| to let us know how a UW ID card could benefit your students.
