Ailbeintio Pont Y Borth            * AILBEINTIO PONT Y BORTH? - Y Geiriadur a'r Gymraeg

The lexicographer’s work, like painting the Forth Bridge, is an endless task.
In this lecture Gareth A. Bevan discusses some of the reasons why dictionaries need
to be constantly revised to include new words and idioms, and outlines the changes
to the Welsh language in the days of the Internet, e-mail, text messaging and blogs.

1921-2012

'To write a Dictionary with all the care, attention, deliberation and study, with which it ought to be written, will ever be found to be a toilsome - a Herculean task ... To be convinced of the fatigue, indispensible toil, and even drudgery of Dictionary writing, let the man of letters attempt a dozen articles under any part of the Alphabet, and he will need no further conviction.' -- John Walters, An English-Welsh Dictionary, 1794, viii.
