On the 27th of November, the Bangor Branch of the University of Wales Alumni Association will begin their 2015/16 public lecture series with a lecture on Climate Change.
Arranged to coincide with the important United Nations Climate Conference on Climate Change (COP 21) being held in Paris at the end of November, Dr James Scourse will deliver a lecture entitled The Role of the Oceans in Climate Change. Dr James Scourse is a Professor of Marine Geology at the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University and current Director of the Climate Change Consortium of Wales (C3W).
Publicising the lecture, the Branch explains:
"In the run-up to the United Nations Conference, few realise the critical importance of the oceans. Well over 90% of the additional energy now being retained by planet Earth because of our greenhouse gas emissions is being captured by the oceans.
We heard talk about record global atmospheric temperatures this September and October. But in the longer term it is the oceans that will determine both our climatic future and the fate of the sea and terrestrial ice at the poles and, consequently, the extent of sea level rise in the coming decades.
James Scourse' lecture will be essential listening for anyone interested in our fate locally and globally."
Delivered through the medium of English, the lecture will be held in the Conference Room in Hen Coleg, Bangor University. The lecture will begin at 5:15pm and a warm welcome is extended to all.
