Public lecture on climate change and the Bristol Channel coast
The influence of climate change on the Bristol Channel coast will be the topic of a lecture by Professor Simon Haslett to be held at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre on Friday, 18th October at 12.30pm. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.
In September, Professor Haslett was invited to deliver the keynote lecture at the Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Conference on the theme of ‘Climate Change and the Somerset Coast’. Given the topical nature of the lecture and the interest that it generated, Professor Haslett was invited to make a broader presentation on the influence of climate change on the Bristol Channel coast. The lecture will feature the coastal fieldwork approaches used and will incorporate findings from his research.
Simon Haslett, who is Professor of Physical Geography and Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, has undertaken over 25 years of research into the Bristol Channel and been involved in the making of a number of TV documentaries about his research.
Professor Haslett said: “My research has investigated the impacts of climate change in the Bristol Channel region from the ice-age up to more recent changes due to global warming and sea-level rise in the 21st century, and I’m excited about delivering my lecture on this very important topic in Swansea”.
The lecture will begin at 12.30pm and last around an hour. Guests are invited to arrive earlier and use the Centre’s cafeteria for refreshments.
