A new virtual learning environment, known as ‘Google Classroom’ is available for use by staff and students at University of Wales Collaborative Centres through the University’s MyWales platform.
Google Classroom was launched by Google for Education in August 2014 as an alternative to other VLE’s, such as Blackboard and Moodle, and is a platform which allows tutors to create and upload online learning resources, and set, collect and grade student assignments. Tutors can also utilise existing Google applications, such as Gmail and Google Drive to facilitate the creation of documents and communication with students. Tutors will also be able to provide links for students directly from Google Classroom to other MyWales resources, such as the University’s extensive online library.
Google Classroom is provided free by the University for Collaborative Centres to use as part of the University’s subscription to the Google for Education service.
